Tokyo Babylon

Tue Nov 1, 2005, 5:39 PM
Excuse me while I go all fangirly.

...I just finished reading this manga series (Tokyo Babylon, that is) and I LOVE it. Although that may be a sign of deep-seated subconscious sadism...considering how tragically it ends...But then, I already knew that about myself...heh...
I love Subaru! T.T How can you not love Subaru? He's like Yukina...perfectly sweet and innocent...(not to mention having an elder fraternal twin willing to make great sacrifices)...but then...T.T Poor Subaru-kun...I think I understand why Hiei's so protective of Yukina, now.
And then there's Hokuto! *Laughs* I started reading because of her...she's splendid. And she wears the craziest outfits. She goes flipping back and forth between shallow and deep like...I can't recall reading another character who did that quite so well.
And Seishiro...o.o Cherry blossoms...I don't know why I'm trying desparately to avoid posting spoilers...but I am...so I can't talk about Seishiro, can I?
The shounen-ai! *Swoons* Uber-angsty-tragical...yes, it's pure sadism that I love this thing. But Subaru's eyes look so pretty when he cries...and...oh, how lovely...Pretty birds, pretty sakura...
The bad part is that I may now have to find some way to read X/1999 without actually buying it. *Growls* I hate the two books of it I have, but...I want more Seishiro and Subaru, dammit! Hmmm...Seishiro's in Tsubasa, though...and he was looking for Subaru and Hokuto...so, maybe...I'll see.

More on this subject:
-Babylon. Reminds me of Ancient History class. Also the song "The Waters of Babylon", or whatever it's called. ^^; In the title they're actually making a parallel with the Tower of Babel...Does that even have anything to do with Babylon? *Knows nothing about Biblical history*
-Twins. In manga, why are fraternal twins always identical!? (Hiei and Yukina are the only exception I know of.) It drives me insane! Obviously fraternal twins CAN look alike, after all, sometimes normal siblings do, but none of the fraternal twins I've ever met have been. Also, being twins seems to arbitrarily make manga characters Geminians. Except Subaru and Hokuto, who are Aquarians. ^.^ I am pleased by that.
-In Tokyo Babylon, there is an interesting bit about how no one can possibly understand another's pain because one is not the other. That comes up ALL the time, but doesn't seem to have anything to do with the plot. Maybe if I consider that last annex further it would, since that one seems to go against the pattern...Although there is all that stuff about Subaru feelings for others vs. feeling for himself...I find this interesting simply because it's not a moral I've ever run across before, though it makes perfect sense.
